Huard's Sport Karate Team (HSK Team) was born in the summer of 2001.

 

Having a competition team was a dream of Mark Huard's and Jayme Dennis' for many years. Through careful planning, years of experience, and support from students and their families, their dream dream become a reality.

Huard's Martial Arts Schools have been around since 1966. They've been bringing the arts of ju-jutsu and karate to local residents as well as specialty classes such as grappling, chanbara, kickboxing, and cardio kickboxing. Many great competitors have come out of the school as well. However, HSK Team is Huard's first ever Sport Karate Competition Team.

The team is comprised of students from the martial arts school that have chosen to take on the extra commitment and put in the extra effort that it takes to be a member of this team.

All members are required to attend certain tournaments throughout the state of Maine. They have the choice to compete in one or more of the following: creative or traditional forms,weapons forms or self defense kata. Additionally, HSK Team members participate in fundraisers to help cover the tournament expenses.

Hard work and dedication are not only emphasized inside the dojo, but in the student's every day life as well. Students must maintain at least a C average in school in order to maintain an active spot on the team.

We encourage our students to be well-rounded individuals--capable of both standing alone, and working as part of a team.
